1. You want your planner to be experienced but have a nontraditional outlook on weddings
Just because we have years of experience crafting weddings of all shapes and sizes doesn't mean we planners should be set in our ways! Having been planning since 2014, with a range on budgets from £25k to £80k, I know what works, but my young planning heart is always searching for the new. I love to innovate and be creative with my wedding ideas to truly customise the day to you. Want alternatives to wedding cakes? I've got plenty. Want a bespoke order to your wedding day? I have ideas there too. However you want to mix things up, I'll be open and honest about what's going to work and what won't.
2. You want complete honesty
I am known in my circle for being straight up about how I feel and what I think is best. If you want someone to work with you on your vision whilst also being realistic about what's possible, then I am definitely the Portugal wedding planner for you. I will tell you if that venue deep in the Douro valley is a bit too remote for your guests. I will notify you if you're in danger of going over budget. I will pass on every piece of expert advice and insider knowledge I have to make your wedding experience better.
Another aspect of this is commission and hidden charges. In the destination wedding market it is very common for planners to take commission from the suppliers or venues they recommend. There is absolutely nothing wrong with this. For me, however, I want to recommend suppliers and venues that completely match your needs and your budget, so I do not take commission. If I am offered commission, I ask that the amount is deducted from your bill so that you get that money back in your pocket.
If you want a planner that's very open and honest, I may be the planner for you.
3. You want a destination wedding planner who is passionate about Portugal
If you're reading this blog, I'm guessing you've been to Portugal. And if you haven't yet, definitely check out my "Why Portugal?" page to see if this is the right destination for you. Portugal is easy to fall in love with. It has lush green countryside with vineyards, valleys and rolling hills. It has historical palaces and monasteries, beaches and resorts, quintas and cork fields. The Portuguese are friendly and vibrant. The cuisine is healthy and tasty. But none of these are the reasons why I moved my business from the UK to Portugal. I'm in love with Portugal's potential. There is so much here and it's like finding untapped oil. There are some beautiful wedding venues, talented suppliers and unmatched landscapes that make Portugal the perfect setting for an insta-worthy wedding. Not only that but being here truly inspires my creative process which fuels me to make your wedding day the most colourful, authentic celebration it can be.
4. You want an exclusive service from your wedding planner
Let's be real. You don't have time to plan an entire wedding by yourselves (especially not a destination wedding in Portugal!). So you want a planner who has the time for you. You want a planner who really gets to know you as a couple and can work to your specifications without pestering you at every turn. You want a planner who is available when you need them and guides you though the wedding process in an efficient and friendly way. You want a planner who understands what you want and goes out of their way to overdeliver. This is why I cap my weddings per year at a mere 10 weddings. Yes! I work with a maximum of 10 couples a year and make sure those 10 couples feel like absolute superstars.
5. You don't like packages
This is a big one. When researching destination weddings in Portugal, you’ve probably seen a few packages where for a neat overall fee, you get a planner, venue, three course meal, one bouquet, a DJ, a cake etc. If you are in love with that venue and want your wedding planning done easily and quickly, this is a great option for you. It’s convenient, it’s (usually) cheaper and it’s less work. I completely understand the merits of doing this. It’s so much easier.
And yet soooooo boring right?
You are no cookie-cutter couple. You want true personalisation from the ground up. The challenge of every wedding is to get to know you, the couple, and craft a brand new wedding from scratch. I deliver tailored wedding suppliers and fresh ideas - all within your budget. And yes it is a challenge, and waaaaay more work than a package, but I love it!
The planning process does take longer; instead of one purchase that takes care of everything, we go step by step, sourcing and booking each supplier after you’ve approved that they are right for you. I do all the researching and logistics but you have the final say. At the end you'll have a unique wedding day where every aspect has been carefully selected and customised for you.
Whether you want a symbolic elopement or a 3 day wedding party, come to me for a tailor-made experience.
6. You want a colourful wedding design
Let’s talk about the colour. If you are a colour lover like me or you like the way that I do colour, could well be the Portugal wedding planner for you.
Colour scheming is absolutely my forte. I practice new combinations all the time and love drawing on inspiration from flowers, tiles and clothing to push the boundaries in colourful wedding styling. If you’re vibrant and adventurous, your wedding should totally reflect that. Don’t be afraid!
I’ve worked really hard to become an expert in creating colour schemes that wow your guests, so if you’re feeling brave, get in touch.
7. You want to work as a partnership
The final way to tell if I'm the right Portugal wedding planner for you is if you want an ongoing working relationship with your planner or if you want it all done for you. I believe there should be a fundamental understanding of partnership when it comes to working on your wedding day. I fully understand if you have zero time and would rather your wedding day is built without your input at all, but I like you to be in the driving seat of your wedding planning. We work together to hone your ideas to create the wedding you really want and hopefully have tons of fun in the process!
