Touch of Africa Wedding Styled Shoot

Bride and groom smiling

So I finally get to blog about this amazing West African & English fusion wedding styled shoot I did in October of last year. It’s been difficult to sit on my hands about this one as I loved designing this wedding! Both the bride, Julia Anukam, and the groom, Hamid Atta, have Nigerian backgrounds so I wanted to bring in some African influence to reflect them. The extraordinary Jennifer at Jennifer’s Paper created the bespoke Ankara style pattern that we used in the stationery, ties and cupcakes. Patterns really bring styling to life and I love incorporating them wherever I can!

To start the shoot we rose early in our hotel room at Grange City Hotel to get the bride ready. I was lucky enough to have the fabulous Anne Schwarz and Ben Queenborough capture the day from the very beginning (these two just got married so please show them some love!!!). Natural hairstylist Subrina Kidd and bridal makeup artist Malkia Roberts joined us in the early hours to get our beautiful bride made up.

After some get ready shots at the hotel, we headed to meet the groom at the London Rowing Club for their first look! Hamid was wearing suits from bespoke tailor Kwame Koranteng. The brightness of the suits looked great with the softness of the bride’s dresses by Claire Pettibone at Blackburn Bridal (my favourite London wedding dress boutique).

Onto the ceremony where we set up a mix of floating candles by Complete Event Hire and the stunning cross back chairs by Stress Free Hire. On the mantlepiece we popped in some extra flowers in shot glasses for something simple and effective.

Can we talk about this bouquet!!! The flowers were done by Ricky Paul Flowers who are fabulous if you want that extra wow factor. The rich leafy table centre really stood out against the crockery and cutlery by Whitehouse Crockery. When it comes to wedding napkins, it’s go bold or go home for me! These bright blue ones by Complete Event Hire fit perfectly without overpowering the styled table. I also injected a pop of yellow on the tables with these succulents-in-lemons-place cards (will do a tutorial on these soon!)

For the sweet treats, Elizabeth from Elizabeth’s Cake made this standout cake and these adoooooorable cupcakes! They suited the style perfectly and tasted incredibly yummy.
