A great destination wedding comes down to the location. Choosing the right country to host your wedding is paramount for an amazing, memorable event that your friends and family will remember for years to come! In today's blog we discuss how to choose the right wedding destination for you in 5 easy steps.
Step 1. Write out all potential wedding destinations
I love a good braindump! Sit down together and create a big mind map of all of the possible locations in your head, however unrealistic or unobtainable they may seem. This stage is to get all of your ideas on paper. Not to judge them. So don't rule out any potential wedding country yet. This is just a precursor of all of the possible places you can think of.
Step 2. Rule out countries that don't fit your vision
Now we'll start the judgment process! You want to rule out the places that don't seem to fit with your ideal destination wedding ideas. For example, say you are Portuguese and you write down Portugal as a potential option. Maybe because you grew up in Portugal, you feel it is too familiar and would like to get married somewhere new! On the other hand, perhaps you write down Scotland but decide that it's not right because of the climate. Whatever your reasons are, scratch out the places that you just can't envision for your perfect destination wedding.

Step 3. Begin researching into your list of potential destinations
So now you should have a list of potential places that you can see yourselves getting married in. With this shortlist, you'll want to start a soft research stage to understand a little more about each country as a potential wedding location.
So for example:
Are there direct flights?
What are flight costs like?
What are accommodation costs like?
What information is there on the registration process if you intend to legally marry there?
What does it cost on average to get married there?
Are you able to find any blogs, website or platforms that show venues in that country?
Step 4. Rule out the overly complex countries to get married in
After a soft research into all of your potential wedding countries, you'll see the ones which are just too much hassle. This could be because of the distance, expense, paperwork or any other factors that are important to you when it comes to the ease for yourselves and your guests to have a great event there. Now complexity is very subjective. I, for one, have no issues with getting married in a place where I don't speak the language. However, this may not be as appealing to you or your guests, so keep them in the forefront of your minds when making a decision.

Step 5. Send out enquiries for your shortlist of potential wedding countries
Finally it's the enquiry stage! This is where you reach out to planners, venues and potential suppliers for more concrete quotes. You'll build a more detailed picture of what planning a wedding there will entail and this will help you make a final decision about which wedding destination is right for you!
