Top 5 Historical Wedding Venues in Portugal

I have been super lazy and have admittedly been neglecting my Venue Edits but I’m finally back with a brand new venue edit for you! As an expert destination wedding planner operating in Portugal, I am privy to some gorgeous Portuguese venues. Although I am the millennial wedding planner with very young tastes, I am still very much in awe of Portuguese histories and historical wedding venues. Here is a round up of my top 5 historical wedding venues in Portugal!

1. Pousada Castelo d’Obidos

As you have probably seen on my YouTube channel, I freaking love Obidos! This charming city engulfed by castle walls is always so full of life and colour. The castle was built by the Romans and then remodelled in the 14th Century to fortify its structure. The walls have stood through the fall of Rome, the Visigoth takeover, the invasion of the Moors and several rising and falling monarchs. Óbidos has outlasted them all and stands tall as a unique slice of Portuguese history. I used it as a basis for my “Inspiration is everywhere” video and you would be hard pressed to find a more inspirational location to get married. I jumped for joy when I discovered you could get married at this iconic historical site! Although it is a hugely popular tourist attraction, there is a private patio and reception area that can be hired as part of the Pousadas de Portugal group. It is ideal for an intimate wedding in a grande setting.

2. Monserrate Palace

Sintra is magical in so many ways and has a plethora of historical buildings that makes this little town have a very fairytale like quality to it. Although Pena Palace is the most famous location there, Monserrate Palace is a real gem. Popular for elopements, the chapel ruins are the perfect backdrop for your nuptials. The palace itself was once a summer holiday home for the Portuguese Royals and has some gorgeous light, spacious rooms for ceremony and receptions. If you want an enchanted castle wedding, consider this amazing Sintra wedding venue!
