50 Common Wedding Words in Portuguese

When my mother and I moved to Portugal when I was 14, I didn’t realise how much those years would shape my life forever. Not only did I learn to speak and write in Portuguese (which I didn’t speak a word of before moving there), but I also learnt resilience, reflection, and the very basic truth, that even if you’re dark skinned, you need to wear sunscreen. I now use my Portuguese skills and knowledge of wedding planning in tandem to offer a destination wedding planning service in this wonderful country. And though, at the time of writing this, I am not actively planning due to health reasons, I still want to help you lovely lot who are interested in getting married here!

Here are 51 common phrases specifically to do with weddings that you may find useful. If you watch the video and put on the subtitles, you’ll see the spelling and hear the translation as well. Please do bear in mind that I am a brit first and foremost, so although I had help with the translation, it may not be completely perfect. This is also European Portuguese, not Brazilian Portuguese, but I’ve put a few brazilian variations below where appropriate.

I hope you find this list helpful and if you’d like to see more Portuguese translations here and on my Youtube channel then please leave me a comment on my video as to what you’d like to see and I can perhaps make this a series!

Ta ta for now,

Olivia x
