It came out of nowhere. You thought it was just a bog standard Valentine’s day. Some petrol station flowers, an expensive dinner that makes your partner sweat, a heart shaped box of half eaten chocolate because they just ‘couldn’t help themselves…
…and a shiny diamond ring.
Ahhhh Ohmygod ohmygod ohmygod ohmygod! Yes, yes a thousand times yes!
You’re flying right now, absolutely over the moon! You’re engaged..so now, what? Here’s what!

Tell your nearest and dearest before you touch Facebook
The glorious news that you’ve decided to spend the rest of your lives together should always be told to your loved ones directly. It’s so impersonal finding out your best friend is getting married just by scrolling on their Twitter feed. Make your loved ones feel included!
Tip: If you get engaged abroad, bear in mind the time difference for when you’re calling home. (Your Mum will be overjoyed to hear you’re engaged but not if you wake her up!)

Treat yourself to a manicure
Eeeeeeeverybody wants to see your ring. The butcher the baker and the candlestick maker are all curious to see it – don’t disappoint! Whether you’re a nail junkie or not, now’s the time to treat yourself to a professional manicure that will leave your hands looking as prim and polished as your new rock. #TreatYoSelf

Make the parents meet your parents
No doubt by this stage you’d have met your partner’s family (and if you haven’t this is priority number 1 girl!). They love you, you love them but now comes the really hard bit; when the parents meet the parents. The best way to do this is to have a big family dinner at a restaurant you like so there’s no pressure on either party to cook and everyone is a little more relaxed. It’s frightening but your parents love you, so they’ll surely make the effort to get on.

Take a couple of months out before wedding planning
I would be the worst at this! If I were to get engaged, I would dump a huge scrapbook on my fiance’s lap and say ‘right, here’s what we’re gonna do.’ However, starting the wedding process straight away is a one-way ticket to the loony bin. So take a breather! Enjoy just being engaged so a few weeks, months or even a year! It’s an amazing time before things get serious so revel in its loveliness.
That’s it! Being engaged is a magical time so I hope you make the most of it. And if you need any advice for when you’re ready to start wedding planning, you know where to come
Ta ta for now!
